HyperBac Online - Licensing FAQs
How is HyperBac Licensed?
HyperBac offers customers a very simple licensing model. HyperBac Online is licensed per server. We do not care about the following:
• The number of database instances
• The size of your backup data
• The number of CPUs
The model is simply one HyperBac instance per server and nothing more.
What if I have a number of virtual servers on the one physical server?
You would typically use HyperBac Online to reduce your virtual server footprint, so a single instance per server is all that is required.
If, in the very unlikely event you choose to compress a database running within a virtual server, then a HyperBac Online instance is required for that virtual server instance.
I have an active/passive cluster. How is HyperBac licensed in this case?
HyperBac Online needs to be licensed for each node of the cluster. HyperBac Online architecture requires that it is installed on each physical node.
What is the restore-only license?
Restore-only licenses apply only to HyperBac for SQL Server. For more information about restore-only licenses for HyperBac for SQL Server, see HyperBac for SQL Server’s licensing FAQ.
Do I have to subscribe to the product every year?
No. HyperBac Online is licensed on a perpetual basis. You can choose to purchase a support and upgrades agreement with your license. For more information on pricing, see the HyperBac Features Comparison and Pricing Table.
What is the cost of migrating a license from one server to another?
HyperBac permits license migrations for customers with a current software support and upgrades agreement.
If you wish to migrate a license from Server A to Server B, there is also an additional administration fee of USD $100 for each license migrated. If you have any questions about migrating licenses, please contact us.
I have HyperBac for SQL Server; can I just install and use HyperBac Online?
If you have HyperBac for SQL Server and wish to upgrade a license(s) to HyperBac Online, we offer an easy upgrade path. Please contact us for more information.
My support has expired, can I upgrade HyperBac?
HyperBac Online is licensed on a perpetual basis. If you do not renew your support and upgrades agreement, then you can continue to use your presently installed product.
A support and upgrades agreement entitles you to all HyperBac upgrades available for your installed product. Technical support is available to all customers with a current support and upgrades agreement.
To be able to upgrade HyperBac Online, you will need a current support and upgrades agreement. Your HyperBac installation will look at both the software version and maintenance expiry date to determine product validity. If your support and upgrades agreement has expired and you try to upgrade your deployed instance of HyperBac Online, your deployed instance will no longer work. In this scenario, please contact HyperBac Support to either renew your support and upgrades agreement in order to complete the upgrade on your deployed instance, or to revert back to the product release your deployed instance was running when your support and upgrades agreement expired.
If you have any questions about the upgrade process, please contact us.
Please note that HyperBac does not make past product releases available for general download. It is assumed that the customer is keeping a master copy at their premises.
